SHEFEXIL refers to Shellac and Forest Products Export Promotion Council. It works towards maximizing India’s export potential through collective actions. On a large scale, this council focuses on conceptualizing plans and initiatives for Exports of Non Timber Forest Produces.

This council started in the year of 1957 as SEPC (Shellac Export Promotion Council). It was formed under sponsorship of Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India to facilitate India's exports of shellac and lac based products.

In April 2005, SEPC part was extended as a Nodal Export Promotion Council for India’s Non Timber Forest produce.

Subsequently, SEPC was renamed as SHEFEXIL (Shellac & Forest Products Export Promotion Council) and now supports 860 individual products with 2140.94 US$ million of exports in 2018-19.

In October 2007 SHEFEXIL was declared as the nodal EPC for the North Eastern Region of India, to facilitate all exports from the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram & Sikkim.

Now SHEFEXIL is the sole responsible authority for the following functions

  • Nodal EPC for Non Timber Forest Produce (NTFPs) and their value added variants
  • Other Major Product Groups include Guar Gum and Sesame seeds
  • 860 Individual Products
  • Membership base of 676 active exporters
  • A direct contributor to weaker sections of society - tribal women, marginal cultivators, economically challenged population from the North East, arid areas, etc.

We are glad to announce that our Eurofins labs are now recognized by SHEFEXIL, the Shellac & Forest products export promotion council. It mandates third party sampling & testing of products like shellac, Veg Saps & Extracts, Guar Gum, Sesame seeds, Herbs, Niger. Seeds, Other Vegetable materials, Fixed Vegetable Oil, Cakes etc if meant for export.
